Blanco Shop tutorial

General information

This tutorial is meant to explain the how to use the Blanco Shop Child theme.

First of all this is a child theme for the Blanco theme, that means you must install first the Blanco theme to be able to use the child theme. The shop child theme has support for WooCommerce  –  the most popular WordPress eCommerce plugin.  This will allow to transform your site in a powerful online shop able so sell virtually anything.

Theme requirements:

  • Blanco theme version 1.7.2 or greater
  • WooCommerce plugin version 2.1.6 or greater
  • WordPress – at least version 3.8

Theme installation – The theme can be installed just like any other theme, the only difference is that it requires the Blanco parent theme to be installed already, only after that you will be able to activate it.

After the theme is activated and WooCommerce (WC) installed you can set up your shop. For details related to WooCommerce please check WooCommerce documentation. The WooCommerce plugin is very complex and has a lot of possibilities out of the box, but it also has lots of awesome extensions (plugins)  that will allow you doing even more. Because of the WC complexity, some users may find it difficult to use at the beginning, this is why we recommend to check the official plugin documentation and tutorials. Here we will cover only the features related to Blanco Shop child theme.

New Options

Once the theme is activated you’ll notice some new settings related to the shop in the theme’s options, below I’ll describe each of them:

  • Under the colors setting, at the bottom a new option will be available: “Background color for list and grid view boxes”Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 4.24.28 PM
  • Other colors related to the shop can be controlled from the WC settings:

  • New Typography options:

You also should know that WooCommerce offers some settings for image sizes as well.

  • Shop List view excerpt length:

New Page Template

And also the theme will add a new page template: ‘Latest products’, it can be used to display your latest products in different layouts.

If this template is selected, you’ll find bellow a box with settings that will allow you to select the layout, product categories and number  of posts displayed:
